SEATTLE (AP) - The same jury that convicted a man for killing a Seattle police officer in 2009 is weighing whether he should be sentenced to death.

The Seattle Times reports (https://bit.ly/1MJUaJA) that the first of about four dozen witnesses is testifying Wednesday in the penalty phase of Christopher Montfort’s capital-murder trial.

King County jurors rejected Monfort’s insanity defense and on June 5 convicted him of aggravated first-degree murder for killing Officer Timothy Brenton.

The jury will decide whether he will be sentenced to death or life in prison without the possibility of release.
