PASSAIC, N.J. (AP) - Authorities have recovered the body of a bridge inspector nearly two days after he was swept away in a northern New Jersey river.

The body was found Wednesday near the Union Avenue bridge in Rutherford.

The Record (https://bit.ly/1N2vDAc ) newspaper reported 47-year-old Efrain Grajeda lived in Monroe Township.

Grajeda was inspecting a footbridge over Weasel Brook that feeds into the Passaic River during a downpour on Monday. The worker slipped off the bridge and was swept away when heavy rains caused the water level to rise 11 feet, authorities said.

Grajeda worked for a company hired by the New Jersey Department of Transportation as part of the state’s bridge inspection program.
