RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Virginia Commonwealth University’s health system has a new CEO.

The university announced Tuesday that Dr. Marsha D. Rappley will begin her duties in Richmond on Aug. 15. She comes to VCU from Michigan State University, where she is dean of the College of Human Medicine.

VCU says that during Rappley’s 10 years as dean, research funding from the National Institutes of Health and other federal entities has doubled. Endowments have grown by 80 percent over the past four years and the medical school has expanded to serve virtually every corner of Michigan.

Rappley also is a tenured professor of pediatrics and human development.
