SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. (AP) - The publisher of the Scottsbluff Star-Herald says its longtime editor is stepping down but will remain on the staff to handle special projects.

The newspaper reports (https://bit.ly/1SnAKhi ) Steve Frederick will be replaced on Monday by Bart Schaneman, who’s been assistant editor over the past two years.

Publisher Greg Awtry says Frederick will be bringing Star-Herald readers unique stories about people, places “and the rich history of the Nebraska Panhandle.” Frederick says he’s looking forward to increasing his creative contributions after running the news department for 15 years.

Schaneman was born and raised in Scotts Bluff County and has worked in the newspaper business for 10 years. He graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
