LAS VEGAS (AP) - Veterans can now claim a vehicle registration tax exemption online or at a DMV kiosk, rather than having to work with a clerk or use snail mail to get the break.

The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles announced Wednesday that Clark County’s computer system is now ready to process the exemptions, bringing it in line with the state’s 16 other counties that are already processing the exemptions electronically.

Veterans who renew their registration are eligible to skip the governmental services tax portion of the payment, which DMV officials say can be worth $60 to $150 a year.

Clark County veterans and surviving spouses claim more than 45,000 exemptions a year, which are worth $5.7 million. The number of exemptions given statewide is nearly 70,000.
