ROANOKE, Va. (AP) - Civil rights and voting rights activists will hold a rally in Roanoke to mark the second anniversary of a Supreme Court ruling that dismantled a key provision of the Voting Rights Act.

The event is set for June 25 at Elmwood Park. Organizers say activists from a wide area are expected to attend.

Wade Henderson, president and CEO of The leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, says voters are more vulnerable to discrimination than at any time since the Voting Rights Act was passed in 1965. He and the other activists object to the Supreme Court’s ruling that ended a requirement that states with a history of discrimination in voting obtain clearance from the U.S. Justice Department before changing any voting laws or practices.
