RUSSELLVILLE, Ala. (AP) - A group of high school students from northwest Alabama has won an international rocketry competition in France.

The seven-member team from Russellville High School captured first place in the International Rocketry Challenge at the Paris Air Show on Friday.

The students designed, built and launched a small rocket capable of carrying a single egg aloft. They launched the rocket to a height of 824 feet during a flight that lasted about 54 seconds.

The Alabama team got to Paris by defeating about 700 other U.S. teams during a national competition last month.

The Americans competed against teams from the United Kingdom and France.
