TYLER, Ala. (AP) - Authorities say a 72-year-old Alabama man was killed as he tried to jump from a falling tractor and ended up pinned beneath it.

The Selma Times-Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1evcTy6 ) Allen Wood Spivey died Thursday while he was using a tractor to grade land for a road next to his home in Tyler.

Lowndes County sheriff’s Sgt. Mark Green said investigators believe Spivey was grading on a hillside when the soft ground gave way and the tractor began to fall. Green said it appears Spivey tried to jump off the tractor and it overturned on top of him. Emergency responders found him beneath the heavy machinery.

Tyler is located about 12 miles southeast of Selma.
