MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (AP) - A Marshalltown park now has some unusual sculptures after officials reacted creatively to a storm that damaged three trees.

The Times-Republican reports (https://bit.ly/1MS2XZT ) that after the storm damaged the trees in Riverview Park, city Parks and Recreation Director Terry Gray began searching for options rather than simply cutting down the trees.

She stumbled upon Des Moines artist Gary Keenan, who has created a number of tree carvings.

Beginning in 2013, he carved the remains of one tree into a scene from “The Three Little Pigs,” then last year created a wizard’s castle. Last month, he completed a taller carving depicting a scene from “Jack and the Beanstalk.”

The food processing company JBS USA helped pay for work.
