DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) - Neighbors of a proposed shooting range in rural Dubuque County have filed a lawsuit seeking to block the development.

The Telegraph Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1LoeW11 ) three neighbors filed the lawsuit Tuesday against several county panels, arguing the proposed range was too close to their properties and could endanger people or livestock.

The Dubuque police and county sheriff’s office applied for a special-use permit to build the 100-yard law enforcement shooting range. After several meetings, county boards approved the permit.

Authorities say the range could be used by any officers working in the county.

The Dubuque police chief, county sheriff and county attorney all declined to comment on the lawsuit.

The lawsuit argues the decision to grant the special-use permit was unreasonable and not supported by the facts.
