WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) - A Winston-Salem man has been charged in the slaying of his caregiver.

Multiple media outlets report 60-year-old David D. Thomas was arrested and charged on Thursday with first-degree murder in the death of 72-year-old Ruby Johnson.

Police say Johnson, who was found dead in her home, is believed to have been assaulted.

Police say the two lived together and Johnson was Thomas’ caregiver.

Thomas is being held at Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center without bond. It was not immediately clear if Thomas has hired an attorney.
