BURGAW, N.C. (AP) - A prosecution witness has failed to attend a hearing to give testimony against a man accused of killing a Wilmington man and, two years later, one of the prosecution’s other witnesses to the slaying.

Multiple media outlets report that the unidentified witness did not attend a special Thursday hearing in Pender County scheduled to preserve the witness’ testimony on camera against 32-year-old Nashid Porter.

Porter has been charged with the 2012 fatal shooting of Brian Grant as well as the 2014 killing of prosecution witness Obediah Hester IV. Hester was killed in Duplin County in November, two months before Porter’s trial was initially scheduled. Porter was on pretrial release at the time.

New Hanover County District Attorney Ben David said Thursday he did not know why the witness was absent.
