MINEOLA, N.Y. (AP) - A Brooklyn man who acted as the would-be getaway driver for a man who shot and wounded a Long Island police officer while fleeing a burglary has been sentenced to seven years in prison.

Nassau County prosecutors said Renhang Qiu was sentenced Friday by acting Supreme Court Justice Philip Grella.

Qiu pleaded guilty in May 2014 to a burglary charge.

Authorities say he and another man, Cong Xu, attempted to burglarize a home in August 2013. When police arrived during the break-in, Cong opened fire and wounded a Nassau police officer.

Both men fled, but were apprehended nearby.

Cong, who pleaded guilty to assault and burglary, was sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Officer Mohit Arora (MOH’-heet ah-ROH’-rah) was out of work for months after being shot in the groin.
