NEW BRIGHTON, Pa. (AP) - Authorities say an apartment fire that killed a man in western Pennsylvania has been ruled accidental.

Fire crews in Beaver County were sent to the New Brighton building at about 7 a.m. Tuesday and found the man dead in a unit on the third-floor.

Coroner Teri Tatalovich-Rossi identified him as 56-year-old Terry Hughes. She said an autopsy will be done to determine the cause of death.

Fire chief Jeff Bolland said crews arrived to find heavy black smoke. He said Hughes had been smoking while using an oxygen tank on the building’s third floor.

The state police fire marshal ruled the fire accidental. New Brighton is about 25 miles northwest of Pittsburgh.
