WILLIAMSPORT, Md. (AP) - Damaged vehicles were strewn along a stretch of southbound Interstate 81 Monday afternoon following a multivehicle accident that involved about 20 cars and trucks.
The Herald-Mail of Hagerstown (https://bit.ly/1eMLYgS ) reports there were three separate crashes with several tractor-trailers sitting among the wrecked vehicles Monday. Police Sgt. Robert Fraley says heavy rain may have caused the crashes, but he’s still waiting for investigating troopers to determine exactly how they occurred.
Police say about 15 people were transported to hospitals for medical attention, but none of the injuries appeared life-threatening.
The wreck snarled southbound traffic on I-81 for nearly 4 hours, as well as on roads in and around Williamsport, including U.S. 11, which was used to redirect traffic through the town and on to West Virginia.
