ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Albuquerque police say a knife-wielding woman who had barricaded herself in her residence after allegedly assaulting her boyfriend apparently sneaked away while police were trying to make contact with her.

Officer Fred Duran says SWAT officers entered the residence several hours after the incident began Tuesday morning and found the woman gone.

According to Duran, the woman may have escaped through a small passage between her residence and an adjacent residence.

The incident began with a dispute between the woman and her boyfriend who said she had struck him at least once in the head with a table. He called police from a neighbor’s residence.

Duran says the woman started a fire inside the apartment after police arrived and also pushed objects against the door.
