BOZEMAN, Mont. (AP) - Authorities have released the name of a man who drowned in a whitewater rafting accident in Gallatin County over the weekend.

The sheriff’s office says 43-year-old Brian Niedermeyer was one of eight people on a guided rafting trip on the Gallatin River when their boat flipped just north of House Rock on Sunday afternoon.

The Bozeman Daily Chronicle reports (https://goo.gl/KNtv4v ) Geyser Whitewater Expedition was leading the trip. Company officials say there were two rescue kayaks and two people on land with safety line throw bags, but Niedermeyer wasn’t able to grab the safety lines.
