INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - The Indy Eleven have filed head coach Juergen Sommer and hired former assistant coach Tim Regan as interim head coach.

Indy Eleven owner Ersal Ozdemir announced the change Tuesday, calling it “a tough day” for the North American Soccer League franchise.

The Eleven have just one win in eight NASL games this season.

Assistant coach Paul Telfer also was let go. Midfielder Kleberson will serve as interim assistant coach while he recovers from surgery on his Achilles tendon.

Sommer, a former U.S. national team goalkeeper and former Indiana University standout, is the only coach the Eleven have had since the team began play last year.

Ozdemir praised the fired coach, saying in a news release that “Juergen Sommer is a man with tremendous character and professionalism.”
