BESSEMER, Ala. (AP) - A man has been sentenced to serve five years in prison for a hit-and-run in Bessemer that left two pedestrians dead.

Al.com reports (https://bit.ly/1cvpkYC ) that 32-year-old Michael Thomas Anderson reached a plea deal with prosecutors and was given a 20-year split sentence with five years to serve in prison. He had pleaded guilty to manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident.

Anderson was scheduled to go to trial on two counts of murder this week. He’s accused of hitting 47-year-old Michael Cummings and 35-year-old Latosha Jenkins with a pickup truck in March 2012. Both died.

Anderson will get credit for about 15 months he’s already served in jail while awaiting trial.
