PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - June is getting off to a cold start in northern New England.

James Brown from the National Weather Service says the mercury nudged 50 degrees for a brief time in Portland on Tuesday, setting a record for the coldest high for the date.

The previous record was 54.

Brown says this will be the last day of 50-degree weather. He says the temperatures should be hitting the 60s and 70s for the remainder of the week.
