PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - For more than five years, Troy D. Turner has struggled to stop the flood of Facebook profiles using his name and pictures, not to mention lies about the Stayton man’s military service.

KPTV-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1FpJ1s2) that the Stayton Police Department has opened a fraud case on what the US Military calls a “romance scam”—people message women from the fake accounts, saying they’re in love and asking for money.

Judy Mezzatesta discovered the scam after a message from a “Troy D Turn.” She then became one of dozens of victims to track down the real Turner.

Unlike the others, though, she fell in love. The two are now engaged.

Turner said he’s angry at the guy who used his identity to scam women. But he also wants to thank him for introducing him to his future wife.
