RANSON, W.Va. (AP) - A Ranson man is facing multiple charges after police say he attacked a 37-year-old woman with a weed whacker.

The Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1ALj8Ht ) police say 52-year-old Floyd Owens was trimming weeds at the victim’s house on Saturday. After seeing him stumble, the victim told Owens to go home because he was drunk.

According to court documents, Owens then became irate and struck the woman in the arm with the weed whacker, leaving a substantial laceration above her right elbow.

Police say the victim yelled for help and Owens fled in his truck. A Jefferson County sheriff’s deputy spotted Owens and initiated a traffic stop.

Owens was arraigned Monday on one felony count of malicious assault and several other misdemeanor charges.

It is not immediately known whether Owens has an attorney.
