PITTSBURGH (AP) - PPG Industries says it has purchased a network of 57 Central American paint stores, which the Pittsburgh paint and coatings maker hopes will boost sales of its Glidden paints brand in that region.

PPG announced the acquisition Tuesday of Consorcio Latinamericano, which operates the stores. Terms of the deal aren’t being disclosed. But PPG says the purchases will give it 87 company-owned stores in Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama.

The company plans to brand its stores in Panama with the Glidden name, which is well-known in that area.
