SALEM, Mass. (AP) - A woman who worked as a live-in caretaker for a 70-year-old Beverly resident has been charged with abuse.

The Salem News (https://bit.ly/1Jh0XfX ) reports that 64-year-old Sandra Granados faces charges of assault and battery on a person over 60 and witness intimidation.

Prosecutors told a judge on Monday that Granados slapped and pinched the woman for wearing the wrong clothes or for brushing her teeth for too long. They allege Granados made the woman take cold showers for episodes of incontinence.

Authorities say Granados may also have stolen $19,000 from the woman although she has not been charged.

Defense lawyer Tom Burke says there is no physical evidence supporting the allegations, and the alleged victim has dementia.

Granados was granted $2,500 bail and ordered to stay away from the alleged victim.
