PORTER, Ind. (AP) - A trail at the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore is closed to allow crews to remove ash trees killed by an invasive beetle.

The (Munster) Times reports (https://bit.ly/1JkBH6T ) the trees will removed along the boardwalk section of the Little Calumet River Trail during the closure that is expected to run through Friday.

The metallic green emerald ash borer tunnels under tree bark, disrupting nutrients and killing the tree. The beetle has been found in more than two-thirds of Indiana’s counties, and communities across the state are removing infested ash trees.

Campers are urged not to move firewood to help prevent the spread of the beetle. Park officials are urging campers to buy local firewood near the campground.
