BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) - The trial for a man accused of shooting his nephew on Brays Island in 2010 has been delayed as the defense waits to receive medical records for the victim.

The Beaufort Gazette (https://bit.ly/1Q1fyjv ) reports Richard Santee was scheduled to be tried for attempted murder last week in the death of his nephew, 42-year-old James Piotrowski on Thanksgiving Day 2010. Authorities say Santee shot his nephew three times during an argument at Santee’s home at Sheldon Plantation. A security guard who responded to the home fired the fourth and fatal shot. He wasn’t charged.

Santee’s attorney has requested Navy medical records for Piotrowski, but wouldn’t comment on their importance.

A judge ordered the Solicitor’s Office to produce the information several years ago, but the victim’s will made that difficult.
