MIAMI (AP) - Officials say a nearly 20-year-old koala has been euthanized at Zoo Miami.

Zoo officials announced Danda-Loo was euthanized on Saturday after falling into declining health.

The Miami Herald (https://hrld.us/1I8c47E ) reports she was the oldest koala. She had been receiving treatments that included laser therapy for arthritis.

While the treatments initially seemed to help, Danda-Loo’s appetite diminished drastically. Zoo Miami spokesman Ron Magill says she lost weight and normal daily activities had become extremely difficult.

The average lifespan for a female koala is 13 to 18 years.

Danda-Loo was born in 1995 at Busch Gardens in Tampa. She came to Miami on April 12, 2007 as part of the Koala Education and Conservation Program managed by the San Diego Zoo.
