LAWRENCE, Mass. (AP) - Lawrence police have arrested almost two dozen people in a drug investigation directed at heroin trafficking in the city.

Police Chief James Fitzpatrick said those arrested Friday include dealers and buyers, ranging in age from 17 to 59 years old.

Fitzpatrick said the Merrimack Valley city has been a focus of drug dealing because of its proximity to major highways and the Massachusetts border with New Hampshire.

He said the investigation was conducted by law enforcement agencies in both states. Police seized assorted bags of heroin and more than $4,000 in cash.

Six people from southeastern New Hampshire were among those arrested.

The police chief said some of those arrested appeared in court Friday, others are expected to be arraigned on Monday.
