SOPERTON, Ga. (AP) - Authorities have identified three people who died after a tanker truck smashed into the back of a car on Interstate 16.

The Georgia State Patrol said Saturday that 27-year-old Beverly Mclain Baird of Calhoun, 28-year-old Ricardo Jason Dewberry of Atlanta and 23-year-old Nicholas Ray Price of Aragon died in the crash.

The state patrol says a truck traveling westbound hit the back of a Toyota Scion driven by Baird around 3:35 a.m. Friday in Treutlen County, about 70 miles east of Macon.

Both vehicles crossed the median and entered the eastbound lanes of I-16.

The truck’s driver, 56-year-old Christopher Hinson of Lyons, was taken to a nearby hospital. The extent of his injuries was unknown.

The crash remains under investigation. No decision has been made on whether to file charges.
