RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - The State Board of Community Colleges has chosen an interim president to lead the system when R. Scott Ralls leaves the post to take over at Northern Virginia Community College.

The board chose George Fouts to serve as interim president beginning Sept. 1, when Ralls begins at North Carolina. Fouts has more than 40 years of experience with the North Carolina system, including as executive vice president of Guilford Technical Community College and interim president at Mayland and Roanoke-Chowan community colleges.

The board named Fouts to the position at its meeting Friday.
