DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) - Bond has been set at $1 million for a man accused of fatally stabbing his girlfriend.

The Telegraph Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1IqG3p0 ) that 26-year-old Eddie Hicks made a court appearance via video feed from jail in the case Friday. He is charged with first-degree murder in the death of 21-year-old Kahdyesha Lemon. She was found outside the couple’s Dubuque residence Wednesday night with more than 20 stab wounds.

Assistant Dubuque County Attorney Chris Corken requested the $1 million bond, saying Hicks is from Chicago and has no family or job ties to Dubuque. Corken also said Hicks has multiple criminal convictions in Illinois.

Hicks was represented at the hearing by a public defender, but told the court he intends to hire a private attorney with the help of his father.
