KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Roads in more than a dozen Missouri counties are closed as rivers and streams overflow.

The Missouri Department of Transportation says counties affected by closures span from Buchanan in the northwest to Scott in the southeast.

The National Weather Service is reporting moderate flooding along the Missouri River at Hermann, St. Charles and Valley Park, the Mississippi River at Chester and Cape Girardeau, and the Gasconade River near Hazelgreen. Minor flooding is reporting along several other waterways, including the James, Black, Meramec, St. Francis and Platte rivers.

The St. Joseph News-Press reported that high waters on the Missouri River have closed a popular walking trail indefinitely. And the Springfield News-Leader reported that the Springfield Fire Department rescued two men twice Friday as they worked to save horses from flooded area.
