TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - Deputies say a man who was playing with his children drowned in a swimming pool at a Tampa apartment complex.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office says a call came in about 11 a.m. Saturday regarding a possible drowning at Somerset Park Apartments.

Paramedics pulled Kenson Gilles from the pool and took him to a hospital where he was declared dead a short time later.

Officials say Gilles had been playing with his two young daughters in the shallow end of the pool. As he approached the deep end of the pool he lost his footing and went under.

Authorities say Gilles didn’t know how to swim.
