PATERSON, N.J. (AP) - A northern New Jersey man is headed to state prison for the fatal stabbing of his roommate’s boyfriend.

Samar Davis received an eight-year sentence Friday.

The 36-year-old Paterson man initially was charged with aggravated manslaughter in the July 2013 slaying of 50-year-old Keith Anderson. But he pleaded guilty earlier this year to reckless manslaughter.

Authorities say Davis and his female roommate got into an argument at their apartment, but have not said what sparked the dispute.

The woman eventually called Anderson, who came to the apartment and began arguing with Davis. The two men soon started fighting, and Davis took out a knife and stabbed Anderson in the chest.

Davis fled the scene and remained at large until he surrendered to authorities in March 2014.
