BALTIMORE (AP) - The Maryland Transit Administration says one of its police officers shot a person in the leg in northeast Baltimore after the officer saw the person with a weapon and a struggle ensued.

The Maryland Transit Administration says an officer observed the person with a weapon in the 5500 block of Harford Road around 9:30 p.m. Friday. The agency says that led to a struggle and the officer fired his gun once, striking the person in the right leg.

The person was taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital, but the Maryland Transit Administration did not give the person’s condition.

The Maryland Transit Administration did not give the age or gender of the person who was shot. They say the person’s weapon was recovered. Baltimore city police are investigating.
