WASHINGTON (AP) - Police in Washington say a teenager shot earlier this week in southeast Washington has died as a result of his injuries.

The Metropolitan Police Department says 16-year-old Malik Mercer of Clinton, Maryland, died Saturday. Police say Mercer was wounded in a shooting Tuesday in the 2800 block of 28th Street SE.

Police say on Friday they arrested 22-year-old Derryck Antjuan Decuir of southeast Washington and charged him in with assault with intent to kill while armed in connection with the shooting.

Police say charges in the case will be reviewed and amended following a determination of Mercer’s cause of death.

Telephone and e-mail attempts to reach Decuir’s attorney, Dana Page, for comment on Saturday were unsuccessful.
