DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Many Iowans are getting a soggy start to the Father’s Day weekend.

Scattered rain and thunderstorms were seen across the state on Saturday morning. The National Weather Service issued a hazardous weather warning for much of the state.

The service says thunderstorms - some bringing high winds, lightning and possibly hail and tornadoes - were likely in the eastern half of the state Saturday afternoon.

Rain and storms could last into the evening, but Father’s Day on Sunday is expected to bring mostly sunny skies with a high temperature in the mid-80s.
