CLAVERACK, N.Y. (AP) - A 62-year-old upstate New York woman has been arrested for killing her neighbor’s dog.

State Police say Linda Derosa of Claverack is facing a felony charge of aggravated animal cruelty.

Troopers were dispatched to a Columbia County residence last Sunday to investigate the suspicious death of a dog. The pet’s owners told authorities they had found their family dog Poppy, deceased, on their property behind the neighbor’s home.

Troopers said the dog appeared to have died from a gunshot wound, and an investigation determined that Derosa shot Poppy with a .22 rifle.

Derosa is due to appear in court in July. It couldn’t immediately be determined if she has an attorney.
