PANAMA CITY, Fla. (AP) - County commissioners in the Panama City Beach have voted down a plan to restrict scooter rental businesses in that area.

The News Herald of Panama City (https://bit.ly/1H3wqlu) reports the county’s planning commission rejected a proposal that would have prevented any new scooter rental businesses from opening in unincorporated areas of the beach.

The Bay County Commission will have the final say on the proposal later this summer.

The proposal was part of an effort to pass ordinances to curtail spring break mayhem.

Law enforcement and some residents have long complained that hundreds of rental scooters zipping up and down the main beach roads are a danger to other drivers and pedestrians.
