WELLS, Maine (AP) - Police in Wells, Maine, say people aboard a charter fishing boat reported seeing a great white shark off the coast of Moody Beach.

The sighting was reported just after noon on Saturday.

According to the Portsmouth Herald (https://bit.ly/1K3YKoy ) the Wells harbormaster sent out boat out but was unable to confirm the sighting. Officials say a sighting at this time of year and so close to the beach is unusual.

Wells police say they don’t feel the need to close the beach at this time, but leave open that possibility if there are additional sightings.

Wells is north of Ogunquit, Maine, in York County.
