LOS ANGELES (AP) - Authorities say a jetliner bound for Lima, Peru made an emergency landing at Los Angeles International Airport after smoke appeared in the cabin.

Airport spokeswoman Nancy Castles said the LAN Airlines flight, which departed from LAX around 2 p.m. Sunday, was forced to return about an hour later.

She said the source of the smoke turned out to be a defective food warmer in the galley.

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner was carrying 230 passengers and 17 crew members.

Castles said passengers were taken by bus to hotels by the airport and rebooked for another flight on Monday.
