BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - U.S. Sens. Heidi Heitkamp and John Hoeven are accepting nominations for the Angels in Adoption program.

Angels in Adoption was established in 1999 by the Congressional Coalition of Adoption Institute to raise awareness about the importance of adoption.

The Angels can be adoptive parents, foster parents, a social worker, attorney, adoptee, physician, nurse, teacher, mentor, or child advocate that has made a difference in the lives of children through adoption, foster care or child welfare advocacy.

Heitkamp is accepting nominations through July 16 and Hoeven through July 17.

Last year, Hoeven nominated Rod and Tracey Belzer who have cared for over 130 different children in addition to their five children. Heitkamp nominated Belcourt’s Ina Olson for her work as director of the Turtle Mountain Child Welfare and Family Service Program.
