BOLTON, Vt. (AP) - A woman and two children were rescued from a rock in Vermont’s Winooski River after their canoe capsized in rough water.

Police say the woman, her husband, two children and the family’s dog were canoeing on the river Saturday when they hit rough waters near Duxbury Road in Bolton.

The Burlington Free Press reports (https://bfpne.ws/1BDeXhI ) that the man was able to swim to shore while the mother and two children reached a large rock in the river.

The Colchester technical rescue team was able to reach them and take them by boat safely to shore.

The dog swam to shore.

Authorities say all four people were wearing life jackets, which likely saved their lives. They say the river was high and dangerous at the time of the accident.
