KENNEBUNK, Maine (AP) - Officials say a Maryland man died in a fire after he and his brother traveled to Maine visit their mother in the hospital.

Fire marshal investigators say 25-year-old Kyle Szlosek (SLOH’-sek) of Glen Burnie, Maryland, died from smoke inhalation on the second floor of his father’s home early Monday.

Maine Public Safety Department spokesman Steve McCausland says the victim’s brother, 31-year-old Jonathan Cressey of Suffolk, Virginia, helped their father escape from his first-floor bedroom after climbing onto a porch from the second floor. The father, 62-year-old Paul Szlosek, was being treated at Maine Medical Center for smoke inhalation.

Investigators said either smoking or a malfunctioning computer caused the fire in the downstairs living room. They said there were no smoke detectors in the home.
