MERRILL, Wis. (AP) - A 13-year-old boy has drowned in the Wisconsin River near Merrill.

The Merrill Fire Department says it got a call about a possible drowning near Ott’s Park at about 3:30 p.m. Sunday. The teen’s body was recovered four hours later about 15 feet from where he went under.

The Lincoln County coroner identifies the victim as Damon Johnson of Mosinee.

Authorities say debris on the river’s bottom and strong currents complicated the search.

Wausau Daily Herald Media (https://wdhne.ws/1BHxl9g ) reports the boy had been swimming with his mother and two friends.
