ALPENA, Mich. (AP) - The Michigan Air National Guard is conducting a live-fire exercise over part of Lake Huron this week.

The Alpena News reports (https://bit.ly/1FwlLsb ) the aircraft from four squadrons, including A-10s and F-16s, will take off from the Alpena Combat Readiness Training Center and engage remote-control target boats. The exercise starts Monday and runs for five days.

The Pike Live Fire Exercise will take place about 20 miles from land, but the Air National Guard says there’s a chance that explosions may be heard that far away or smoke may be seen over the water.

Officials say the exercise is in its third year.
