AMES, Iowa (AP) - Authorities have released the names of two men who died after falling about three stories at a construction site in Ames.

Ames Police on Monday say Javier Hernandez was pronounced dead at the scene Friday afternoon. A second man, Alfredo Jarez, died after he was transported to a local hospital.

Police say the men fell from scaffolding at the construction site of a new six-story apartment complex. A witness told authorities the men were wearing safety harnesses, but they weren’t tied properly to the safety ropes on the scaffolding.

Hernandez and Jarez were contracted to work at the site. Local and state officials are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.
