FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say a 12-year-old California girl who allegedly was abducted by her stepbrother has been found safe in northern Arizona.

Arizona Department of Public Safety officials say Cassidy Hayes and Michael Malloch Jr. were located about 2 p.m. Monday after a traffic stop on U.S. 89 south of Page.

Authorities say the 22-year-old Malloch is being detained for questioning while Hayes is being reunited with her family in Cathedral City, California.

An Amber Alert was issued for Hayes after she allegedly was abducted Sunday by Malloch, who reportedly was planning to drive the two to Massachusetts.

The couple was seen at a gasoline station in Munds Park near Flagstaff on Monday morning. A cashier snapped photos of the two wearing hats and the car they were refueling and notified authorities.
