COVENTRY, R.I. (AP) - The financially beleaguered Coventry Fire District is planning to hold its first meeting since voters opted to dissolve it.

Residents previously voted on June 17 to dissolve the district and shot down a supplemental tax to keep it afloat.

WPRI-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1GujaQo) the district plans to address additional layoffs Monday night at Club Jogues. It also plans to discuss additional union concessions, the liquidation of its assets and the possibility of filing for bankruptcy.

Frank Palin, the district board chairman, said in a statement the town council is not supporting the Coventry Fire District after supporting the struggling Central Coventry Fire District.

Coventry has the highest tax rate of any Rhode Island fire district.

The meeting is scheduled for 8 p.m.
