PATERSON, N.J. (AP) - The family of the man killed in a hit-and-run accident by a Paterson police officer is planning a march and vigil.

Naomi Simmons tells The Record newspaper (https://bit.ly/1I9bd8O ) a march for her son is being held Tuesday. She says participants will walk to the accident site, to a council meeting and then march to police headquarters for a vigil.

Simmons says she wants Officer Jose Urena charged with vehicular homicide for the death of her 23-year-old son, JaQuill Fields. Urena is charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in death.

The 30-year-old officer was off-duty at the time of the accident. He’s been suspended without pay. Prosecutors say he could face more charges.

It’s unclear if he has a lawyer.
